HOW CAN YOU HELP? |
| |
You can help in a multitude of
ways. We're always looking for energetic volunteers, whether
or not you live in Texas. If you love birds, then we'd
love to have your help in making WOL Bird Haven better
and stronger.
In order to operate with maximum efficacy, we need people
like you to volunteer their time and their skills. Below
is a list of some specific ways in which we need people
to help. Please contact us if
you can devote even a small amount of time in any of these
categories:
|
Here's a list of some ways you can get involved:
|
1.) Haven Maintenance:
We need people to help us perform day-to-day
tasks that keep the Haven a functional and healthy
environment for the birds and people who spend time
here.
This includes cage cleaning, floor cleaning, toy
making, and food preparation.
Available times are:
Mon & Fri 9:00am -12:00pm
Monday evening 3:00-6:00 |
 |
|
Saturdays as needed. We will
always list volunteer/workdays on our Facebook page and
the News & Events
page or you can email me at de@bird-haven.
org to see when the next one will be.
|
 |
2.) Positive Reinforcement Training: We
also need people who would be willing to work with the
birds on positive reinforcement training. Volunteers should
be familiar with Applied Behavioral Analysis, the work
of Dr. Susan Friedman, and/or the work of Barbara Heidenreich.
|
 |
3.) CPA: In order to apply for any government grants
or funding, we need to perform an independent audit. We
need someone to donate their time to perform this audit.
|
 |
4.) Other: we are always in need of people with specific
skills such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, etc. If
you have a skill such as this and are wiling to help us
out please let us know.
|
 |
5.) Home checkers: We need people all over the state
of Texas who are willing to be home-checkers for us in
their area. Home-checkers will visit the homes of adoption
applicants to make sure that their lifestyle would not
pose a danger to a companion parrot, and, if they already
have birds, that their birds are receiving adequate care
and housing. Home checkers are asked to be available for
an area up to two hours' drive of their own home. To apply
and for more information about home checking, please click
here.
|
 |
6.) Sponsor a Bird: For as little as $25 a month,
you can sponsor the needs of one particular bird. Go to
our Adopt Me link to see which
fine feathered friend will benefit from your generosity
or go directly to the Donate/Sponsor
page and chose which type of gift best suits you.
|
 |
7.) Be in Charge of a Donation Box: WOL
Bird Haven Donation Box. This small commitment can make
a HUGE difference! Here's how it works. We supply you
with a WOL Bird Haven Donation Box to a retailer you frequent.
Ask them to place the Donation Box near their check-out
register. |
Their customers dump their
extra change in our box--
cha-ching!--and the nickels and dimes add up. You
drop by the retailer occasionally and send us the
accumulated cash.
We do ask for a small $5 donation to cover our costs,
which will be refunded to you when you return the
container.
|
 |
|
 |
8.) Bird Handling: Our birds need time
out of their cages, but this is no job for a novice. Many
of these birds have had checkered pasts and need extra-special
care. If you think you can fill the bill, please contact
us at de@bird-haven.org
and tell us about your experiences with bird handling.
|
 |
9.) And that's not all: There's undoubtedly
many more ways you can help the birds at Wings of Love
Bird Haven that we just haven't thought of yet. If you
have any suggestions, please feel free to contact us with
your good ideas. We look forward to getting to know you
and having you as a part of our cause.
|
One
more thing: Have a look-see through the WOL Bird Haven
website. It's chock full of fantastic information for
all bird lovers to use. We want to spread the information
we have learned about how to care for these beautiful
creatures, so do us a favor:
Pass this information on. If you know of others who may
be interested, send them to our website or ask them to
become Facebook fans of Wings of Love Bird Haven at www.facebook.com/birdhaven.
It's a bird community effort, and the birds need as many
of us as possible. Thank you in advance for your support!
